Bourbon Whiskey Barrel Aged Coffee
Let’s start with the end result: Coffee that smells and tastes like vanilla, oak, Irish cream and of course, Bourbon Whiskey. The aroma is potent and will help you imagine what it’s like walking into a distillery first thing in the morning…with your robe on…and with bed-head. How did we do it? We filled freshly emptied whiskey barrels from Ferndale Michigan’s Valentine Distillery with unroasted, Honduran coffee and let the beans soak up its flavors and aroma. We roasted the coffee just long enough to bring the desired flavors to the forefront…any longer in the roaster, smoky notes would emerge and mute the essence of the barrel.
Serving idea: add milk or cream and vanilla simple syrup to a strongly brewed batch (SBB)
Specific barrels used: 7 Yr Mayor Pingree Bourbon Whiskey
